the black madonna hits home taping hard with her first release on the label >alright this morning<. coming from the middle of nowhere, but now based in the attic of a house in chicago that used to be the home of over 50 dance labels, she likes her music to do the talking and admires the anonymity and musical militancy of acts like underground resistance. having being brought up working in the music industry as an apprentice doing this, that and everything and helping to run labels, she actually refused to let anyone hear her work for years with masters gathering dust and never seeing the light of day. until now when, after the encouragement of a producer friend to get her stuff out there and a chance find by home taping of a few tracks online one day, she has now found a place where she feels at home. the first of a string of releases on home taping sees the jubilant and heavily chicago-influenced >alright this morning< released along with a remix by one of her favourite new producers, nicholas from italy. the rest is history and up to you ...

sadly betty botox is no longer with us. she departed planet earth in 2010 and leaves a gaping hole amongst all those who knew her. she left behind a dat tape in her studio with the final ep written on the cover in lipstick, which her closest confidants feel she wanted to be her last statement to the world. so, after a slight delay, two years later, 4 tracks that were regular features in her musically wayward dj sets are now available for her to fans to hear and play. combining her love for psyche funk, cosmic synth, space rock and late 70s stadium rock these reworkings, remixes, refixes and reproductions of known and unknown tracks are sure to be hits on non-conservative dance floors everywhere.

ncql annouces himself in no uncertain fashion with the anthemic strings of >the framed dreams of loki<. the track nods to dj premier, prefuse 73 and classic metalheadz d&b hidden agenda style and theres a subtle (!) reference to a certain classic 90s rave tune in there aswell. it sounds like a mess – its anything but! this is uplifting breakbeat at its very best. its not often a tune gets played twice by bailey on his bbc 1xtra show in the space of a month, so this must be something special. the flipside has a similar organic & uplifting aesthetic. a strutting break is the base for a deluge of warmth in the shape of synths, strings, flutes, harp and vocals – an unusual sound palette for a drum & bass track these days but refreshing to hear. dj flight thought so and has aired it on one of her next chapter rinse fm broadcasts.

marcus mumford built mumford and sons after his long standing position as laura marlings drummer / harmoniser began to earn him praise from all who saw them play live together. his battered and raspy voice soars with emotion over massive swells of country tinged orchestral pop. lovelorn lyrics filled with hope, anger, fear and every passionate extreme in between mean mumford and sons are sure to achieve a massive amount of praise for their debut album sigh no more, which demonstrates the strength in both song and sound. togetherness is fundamental to mumford and sons. its there in the tightness of the arrangements, and the four part harmonies - its pretty unusual to hear pitch perfect harmonies that are also meaty, masculine and downright loud. and its in the simple fact that mumford and sons get such a kick out of playing together.

the phenomenal handclap band, are a many-membered ensemble which also features musicians from tv on the radio, jon spencer blues explosion and amy winehouses backing band the dap kings, all of whom contribute their individual talents to make for a very exciting whole. their sound is an anthemic, dancefloor-oriented blend of progressive rock, disco, electro, and 60s soul with sprinklings of hip hop-styled orchestral breakbeats and moody, synth-soaked & heavy hooks. using live instrumentation to evoke the intricate arrangements of norman whitfield, quincy jones and phil spector as well as the pared down beats of contemporaries like the neptunes and danger mouse.

here we go again with some crazy party music - directly from the acid-drenched mind of the most fidgety of them all, your favorite bulgarian! after some great releases on such labels as noodles recordings, potty mouth recordings and second session, the bulgarian is back - this time showcasing his minimal side for complot. first off we have the anti-bling anthem check to check millionaire - a surprisingly clever mix of catchy lyrics and an unstoppable groove, the right combination to get faces smiling and booties shaking. dotcoza is the second anthem on this ep, and there s no denying that it s metallic stabs and wild acidic bass line will make you move, while the whistles will tickle your ears for added pleasure. for those looking to hear the bulgarian s darker side, home tonight will not disappoint with it s choppy percussion and inebriated bass line - a perfect compliment for those mushrooms you ate earlier. finally, with its plethora of interesting sound bytes, something red will make you pop like bubble gum and lock like a solid-steel safe. there s no question that the bulgarian s incisive sounds, illegal bass lines and crispy beats will make all of us sweat.. like the last time you got chased by a pit bull..

the debut record of ritmolider kaleidoscope is a traditional studio work with live performance and classic analog sound. being in the era of nu disco and re edits the author has tried to find his own way of making music based on traditional methods of performance. and hes got a beautiful symbiosis of instrumental improvisations and electronic melodiousness. at the begining of the record theres a superb remix by the beat broker - deep, groovy synth disco, highly recomended for dancefloor! the second track is a journey into obscure psychedelic funk with lots of improvisations and atmospheric tunes....a pity so sweet percussions are added so late. b2 tonight at the discotheque will carry you away by the real soviet disco vibe. a beautiful arp solo softly flowing through amazing effects and acoustic drums focused on free played funky basslines. the original version of kaleidoscope is also a very interesting one. a mood of this composition is changed all the time. the first seconds of the track you hear a tender melodic solo which makes you feel calm and relaxed, then you get the groove coming from an agressive arpeggio and dinamic percussion. soon this feeling gets interrupted with a sudden slap bass impromtu playing together with a synthy accompaniment, and it turns into another feeling, and so on... this really reminds of kaleidoscope effect!
